What's up with the wings?
Aside from the commonplace importance of brand identity and consumer identification that a logo provides, I specifically adopted wings as a symbolic metaphor of what photography & art do for me. They set me free - mind, soul & spirit. There are no religious or theological overtones to the my winged icon, they are merely the device which affords the bird the freedom of flight (there's that symbolic metaphor I was talking about).
Where did the wings come from?
While I do most of my own graphic art nowadays, these wings were the work of a talented Iranian-based artist known only to me as "Reza" (rezbnik on deviantart.com) who kindly granted me permission to use as part of my logo. While I've not spoken to him in quite sometime, I hope he is well and one day he will happen upon my site or work bearing our logo and be proud of what it has come to symbolize.
![]() | Matt Moore at your service, I am a San Antonio-based photographer/image maker & graphic artist. "Fashion photography is an insidious profession. In art, it is what sex-appeal is to love. Artifice can be a dangerous thing; when misapplied, the results are vulgar and tawdry. Its correct use depends on instinct. It is up to the fashion photographer to create an illusion. In doing so, he is not behaving with dishonesty, but when properly invoked, the result is not merely an illusion; rather, it makes the observer see what he wishes to see."
~ C. Beaton & G. Buckland, The Magic Image, 1975

"Editorial style refers to artwork that tells a story or communicates a concept or idea. A very strong editorial image will evoke a feeling in the viewer and should be able to stand alone, without explanation."
~ Kenani Brandon, photographer, www.kenanib.com

"There is no single form or style of portraiture. Portraiture means individualism and as such means diversity, self-expression, private point of view. The most successful images seem to be those which exist on several planes at once and which reflect the fantasy and understanding of many."
~ Peter Bunnell, Creative Camera International Year Book, 1977

"Composites are the point in which graphic art and photography intersect to create an image that may have otherwise been difficult (or impossible) for an artist to produce given available resources or the very limitations of reality. A good composite employs the use of studious photography, detailed lighting, digital artistry, creativity and patience to transform a vision from artist's mind to 'canvas'. It's intent is creative fantasy, not photographic fact."
